Ramadan Timetable 2027

How these times are worked out

Times are calculated for the main town of each county, using the Muslim World League method (Fajr at 18°, Isha at 17°) and the Shafi‘i time for Asr, in East Africa Time. We checked them against published Kenyan timetables.

The start of Ramadan depends on the sighting of the new moon, so please follow the announcement from the Chief Kadhi or your local mosque. Your mosque’s jamaat times may differ by a few minutes.

See our Ramadan timetable for 2027 below for this year’s prayer times, and the fasting times for Suhoor and Iftar, in all 47 counties of Kenya. Choose your county and the table will change to show the times where you live.

The Islamic calendar follows the moon, so the holy month of Ramadan comes about ten days earlier each year. This year, Ramadan is expected to begin on the evening of Sunday 7 February 2027, with the first day of fasting expected on Monday 8 February 2027, depending on the sighting of the moon.

Elsewhere in a county, times can differ by a few minutes.

The fourth pillar of Islam: Sawm

The fourth pillar of Islam is Sawm, which means fasting. Muslims fast during Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, from dawn until sunset.

Ramadan holds the most blessed night of the year, Laylat al-Qadr, the Night of Power. Allah (SWT) says:

Indeed, We sent the Qur’an down during the Night of Decree. And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.Qur’an 97:1–5

    When does Ramadan start?

Ramadan begins when the month of Sha‘ban, the eighth month of the Islamic (Hijri) calendar, ends. Because the calendar follows the moon, Ramadan moves about ten days earlier each year.

This year, Ramadan is expected to begin on the evening of Sunday 7 February 2027, with the first fast on Monday 8 February 2027. The exact date depends on the sighting of the moon.

    When does Ramadan end?

Ramadan ends with Eid al-Fitr, the celebration that begins the month of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar. Ramadan lasts 29 or 30 days.

This year, Ramadan is expected to end on the evening of Monday 8 March or Tuesday 9 March 2027, depending on the sighting of the moon. Read Eid al-Fitr in Kenya.

    Frequently asked questions

    What is Ramadan?

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. Healthy adult Muslims fast from dawn until sunset, which means no food, drink or bad behaviour such as arguing or anger. Prayer, reading the Qur’an and giving to charity are also encouraged during the month.

    When is Eid al-Fitr 2027?

Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan. In 2027 it is expected on Tuesday 9 March, or on Wednesday 10 March if Ramadan lasts the full 30 days. The exact date depends on the sighting of the moon of Shawwal.

When should I stop eating for Suhoor?

The fast begins at Fajr, so finish eating and drinking before the Fajr time in the table. Many people stop a few minutes earlier to be safe. Follow the guidance of your local mosque.

Why is my mosque’s time a little different?

The times in this timetable are start times for each county’s main town. Mosques may use a different calculation method or add a few minutes for caution, and jamaat (congregation) times are often later than the start time. Follow your local mosque.

    How were these times calculated?

We used the Muslim World League method (Fajr at 18° and Isha at 17° below the horizon) with the Shafi‘i time for Asr, which is widely used in Kenya, and checked the results against AlAdhan’s published Ramadan 2027 calendar for Kenya.
