Qurbani with Islamic Relief Kenya

Every Eid al-Adha, your Qurbani brings fresh, halal meat to families in Kenya who can rarely afford it. In 2026, 39,538 families received a Qurbani meat pack through Islamic Relief Kenya.

Across Kenya’s arid and semi-arid counties, drought and floods leave many families struggling to put food on the table. For many families in Garissa, Wajir, Mandera and beyond, Qurbani may be the only time in the year they eat meat.

Fulfil your Qurbani this Eid and make a difference for families in Kenya.

So turn in prayer towards your Lord and sacrifice.

A meal to share at Eid

Fatuma is a mother of 8, a grandmother of 5 and a great-grandmother of 1. After 38 years of work she still runs a small business selling sweets, snacks and clothes to support her family.

With her Qurbani meat pack, Fatuma cooked a special Eid meal and shared it with her family and neighbours, celebrating with joy and gratitude.

Who receives Qurbani in Kenya?

Our teams carry out careful needs assessments and use a scoring system so that every Qurbani reaches the families who need it most, fairly and without bias. We give priority to:

  • Families living below the minimum income threshold
  • Households headed by women
  • Families with older people or people with disabilities
  • Children under 5
  • Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers
  • Families with little or no access to local markets

When is Qurbani?

Qurbani takes place during the days of Eid al-Adha, from the 10th to the 12th of Dhul Hijjah. We aim to perform every Qurbani over those 3 days.

You can give up to Maghrib on the 13th of Dhul Hijjah, but the earlier you give, the better. We share the expected dates here each year, once they are announced in Kenya.

Who should give Qurbani?

Most scholars consider Qurbani a highly recommended act of worship. In the Hanafi school it is obligatory for every sane adult Muslim whose wealth is above the nisab, the same threshold as Zakat. For every Muslim, it is a greatly rewarded act that brings us closer to Allah (SWT).
