Give your ZakatMany families in Kenya and around the world begin Ramadan worried about the next meal. Keeping the fast is not the hard part. Finding something to break it with is.
Islamic Relief Kenya has worked alongside communities since 1993. Our teams deliver a Ramadan Food Pack that lets a family sit down to suhoor and iftar together, and spend the blessed month in worship instead of worry.
One pack costs about KES 15,500 (€105) and is meant to feed a family of 7 for the whole month, which is about KES 520 a day.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
Healthy adult Muslims fast from dawn until sunset during the blessed month. This includes avoiding food, drink, wrongdoing and anger. Other acts of worship such as prayer, reading the Qur’an and giving charity are also encouraged.
This year, Ramadan is expected to begin on the evening of Sunday 7th February 2027, with the first fast expected on Monday 8th February 2027.
Ramadan is expected to end on the evening of Monday 8th March or Tuesday 9th March 2027, depending on the sighting of the moon.
*These dates may vary and depend on the sighting of the new moon. We will confirm them here once they are announced in Kenya.
In 2027, Eid ul-Fitr is expected to fall on around Wednesday 10th March 2027, depending on the sighting of the moon.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) gave charity all year round, but gave even more in Ramadan. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
The Prophet (peace be upon him) was the most generous of people, and he was most generous during Ramadan.

A full 70 kg pack costs about KES 15,500 (€105). It is meant to feed a family of 7 for the month of Ramadan. That is about KES 520 a day, so KES 550 feeds a family for a day and KES 3,700 for a week.

Ramadan lasts 29 or 30 days, depending on the sighting of the new moon.
It is a greeting that means “a generous Ramadan”. It is a wish that the month will be full of blessings and giving.
You can eat and drink after sunset, at iftar, and before dawn, at suhoor. Fasting begins at the Fajr prayer time and ends at Maghrib.
Zakat al-Fitr, also called Fitrana, is a small obligatory gift of charity that each Muslim who has enough pays for themselves and their dependants before the Eid prayer. It helps families in need celebrate Eid. Islamic Relief Kenya announces the amount each year.
