What is Jumada al-Thani in the Islamic calendar?
Jumada al-Thani is the sixth of the twelve Islamic months. It follows Jumada al-Awwal and comes right before Rajab. Its name means “the second Jumada”. Some people call it Jumada al-Akhirah, which means “the last Jumada”.
It is not one of the four sacred months (Muharram, Rajab, Dhul Qadah and Dhul Hijjah). It lasts 29 or 30 days. It is the last month before Rajab, which is sacred, so some Muslims start to prepare for the season of worship that leads to Ramadan. See all months on the Islamic months page.
Why is Jumada al-Thani important?
There is no special virtue for Jumada al-Thani that is widely agreed from the Qur’an or the Sunnah. No fast, prayer or festival belongs to it. Muslims should not invent special acts for this month.
Its value is that it is a month of Allah like any other. The Prophet (peace be upon him) is reported to have taught that the best deeds are those done steadily, even when they are small. This month is a good time to check your habits before Rajab, Sha’ban and Ramadan arrive.
