Since beginning operations in 1993, Islamic Relief Kenya has supported vulnerable children across marginalised communities, with orphan care remaining one of its longest-running and most impactful interventions.
The programme currently supports orphaned children in Garissa, Mandera, and Wajir Counties, ensuring they have access to the essentials required to live healthy and dignified lives. Through sponsorship, children receive structured support that addresses their core needs, including nutritious food, clothing, access to education, healthcare services and a safe and stable shelter.
Child wellbeing is closely linked to family stability. Many orphaned children are cared for by single parents, grandparents, or extended family members facing economic hardship. To address this, Islamic Relief Kenya invests in strengthening household resilience through:
By improving caregivers’ earning capacity, families are better positioned to meet children’s needs sustainably.
Children are able to remain in school, access healthcare, and grow in safer environments. Caregivers experience reduced economic strain. Households become more stable.
Over time, this integrated model contributes to improved quality of life, greater resilience, and stronger communities across the areas where we work.
